Registration for Library Science Classes Spring 2007 Semester

Registration is open for Spring 2007 library science classes offered by Bluegrass Community & Technical College.

The spring courses include:

  • LIT 115, Introduction to Reference, a good course for beginning students
  • LIT 124, Library Administration, concentrating on the Public Library Planning Process and a review of the Kentucky Public Library Standards, a course for all staff, not just directors and department heads
  • LIT 132, Libray Technical Services, an introduction to cataloging and acquisitions
  • LIT 200, Seminar in Kentucky Literature, a new seminar topic: Kentucky Nonfiction Literature, including history, biography, travel and geography, cookery, environment and natural history, essays, and journalism; a good course for students interested in local and state history collections, this seminar concentrates on basic Kentucky bibliography and access to materials
  • LIT 248, Library Services for Preschool Children, covering literature and programming
  • LIT 285, History of Libraries, a look at where we have come from institutionally.

Access to courses can be done in multiple ways:

  • From the KYVU http://www.kyvu.org home page, go to Programs & Courses
  • From the Programs & Courses page, scroll down to KYVU Online Courses > View All Courses
  • From the All KYVU Courses section, navigate to the LIT listings and select the courses you want to add to your "Educart."

Tuition for each course is $327 for all students, in-state and out-of-state.

Students age 65 and older may take courses for free as Donovan Scholars.

All courses are completely online. All courses count towards the Kentucky public library experience and paraprofessional certification and towards recertification. All courses count towards the BCTC Academic Certificate in Library Information Technology.

The Spring semester begins January 8, 2007 and classes end April 27, followed by exam week when class projects may be due.
